Book & Paper Donation – Service as Action (SA)
By Jolie, Zarith, Madeline, Albert, Kim and Bern
Albert: As part of the literacy week, we organized a Book Drive. We did this project to promote literacy and share the love of reading. We hope more and more children will love stories and reading. We also send the paper that was collected from school to an institution, called Yapentra. It is an institution for the blind people. I think we improve to be global minded students. I am proud that we could engage in one of the global issues.
Kim: For the preparation, there are several steps we did. There were several steps we took to prepare this activity. First we discussed the types of books that we were going to collect for the book drive, and then we created a poster. Second, we announced to the whole school about this event, we visited the PYP, MYP and DP classes. We told each one of the classes the requirements of the books, and showed them the posters. We also made a box in front of the library, we printed more posters and stuck all the posters on the doors and the windows all around the school. I enjoy collaborating with my group. I think we could achieve our goal because we help and support each other.
Zarith: So, we did the visits yesterday, on Thursday. We donated the books to SD Swasta Masehi. There were quite many primary and secondary students . We visited two classes. We introduced ourselves to the students, and told them the purpose of our visit. At the beginning, I felt tired and not interested in it but then I gradually enjoyed it and I am happy that I think we improved our communication and public speaking skills.
Jolie: Thank You to everyone who participated in our book drive, there were quite a lot of books donated that consist of 3 types of books which are picture books, chapter books, and novels. The students who received the books were so happy. Once again thank you for being caring.
Bernvito: Before we went for the Book Donation, we went to Yapentra at Tanjung Morawa. We met many primary, secondary, and high school students. We gave three boxes of paper, and they were happy to receive the paper. We visited one class with approximately 7 secondary students. I am glad I could meet them, this is my first time meeting them. Last year they visited our school, they went into the MYP45 class, but unfortunately I was not in that class yet. I think it will be great if we could do this again in the future.
Madeline: The first place we went was Yapentra, there were students who were blind. They couldn’t see but they could hear us, but some of them aren’t blind completely, who still can see a bit. When we went to the schools, the students were very excited and happy to hear and see us. At first, I felt scared, but then I gradually felt better and enjoyed it a little. Most of my friends enjoyed the visit and also communicated with one of the students named Erni.
Then we went to Primary and secondary school. We introduced ourselves in front of the students and explained to them about giving them books to read. Their reactions were very positive and welcoming as well. They were also very happy to see us and we were very happy to see them too. I am very happy to be able to contribute something to the community. And at the same time, we had a chance to improve our social and communication skills.
THANK YOU
