MIS Swimming Carnival
Written by: Ben Simanjuntak (PYP6)
On Friday, the 26th of January, MIS held a swimming carnival. The school invited five other schools: SIS Medan, Sekolah Integritas Bangsa, Sekolah Siti Hajar, Nakamura School, and Rainbow School. We had four different race styles: Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, and Relay. The competition was held for Grades Three to Grades Ten (MYP 5).
Many people joined the carnival, including parents, students, teachers, photographers, and swimming coaches. It was more than I expected! My other friends were intimidated by the other swimmers because they looked like they were actual athletes! The first event was the Grade 9-10 50m Freestyle. MIS Students (including me) cheered for the school! The next races were the same, and even though some students were the last, some students were first, and some in the middle, everyone cheered and supported the school no matter the person.
Not as many people competed in the breaststroke. The cheer was dying down, but MIS wouldn’t give up! Our girls did very well, but in the boys’ races, many students beat our school. After the backstroke and relays, it was time for lunch. There were many options for food and drink, from nasi goreng to mini burgers. Thank you to all parents and the PTA for donating and giving the food for our carnival! I was lucky to line up early, as there were so many people lining up to eat after me. All the tables that were usually empty at school were filled with many people.
Overall, this carnival was a success, everyone had good sportsmanship and there were no sore losers. The organization was good and would even be better if there were a list of races for the public to check. I hope we have a great swimming carnival next year! 🏊🏻♂️
