MYP23 Bake Sale in Support of Sustainable Development Goals
by Imelda Hutabarat, MYP Service as Action Coordinator
On September 25th, the MYP23 students successfully hosted a bake sale. The menu featured a variety of items including cupcakes, brownies, satay, milk tea, and more. The entire MIS community showed their support for the event, and the students raised Rp.2,600,000. The funds will be used to support the MYP23 project, which involves an upcoming visit to a local orphanage.
This orphanage visit is one of the MYP23’s Service as Action projects, aligned with their learning on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The project addresses several key goals, including No Poverty, Good Health and Well-being, Reduced Inequalities, and Quality Education.
Through organizing this project, from creating SDGs presentations to raise awareness and presenting them to different classes, to shopping, baking and running the bake sale itself, the MYP23 students developed essential skills such as planning, communication, collaboration and initiative and demonstrated responsibility and care.
The bake sale not only supported their project but also gave the opportunity for the students to apply their learning and skills in a meaningful way. The whole process enhanced their understanding of the SDGs and their role as global citizens.
