Field Trip to Dusun Kreatif
by Irma Tobing
In line with the IDU (Interdisciplinary Unit) between Language B-Indonesian and PE with the unit, “My Trip My Adventure”, MYP 2/3 and DP students organized a field trip to Dusun Kreatif on February 20th, 2024. We departed from school at 08.00 a.m. and arrived there at 09.30 a.m.
Upon arrival, we were guided by the staff from the parking area to the location in the valley. Although the path was rocky, the students and teachers were still enthusiastic to go through it. Arriving at the Dusun Kreatif, we were warmly welcomed by the leader accompanied by a very talented guitar player. As he explained the activities to be carried out, we were treated to traditional snacks such as kue lapis and risol accompanied with warm tea. We all loved it. While enjoying this delicious food, all students took a short break inside the hut and enjoyed the unspoiled rural atmosphere.
After the short break, we were directed to play very interactive warm-up games; the committees were professional in guiding us. The students seemed to really enjoy it. This was followed by the first game, “Gobak Sodor”. The students were divided into two groups, the Rambutan group and the Durian group. According to the students, this game was quite challenging because it was very difficult to reach the finish line.
After the first game, we had a traditional lunch. The best part of this lunch was the students had to learn how to make their plates from banana leaves because the “Dusun Kreatif” team did not provide any plates. We were also entertained with Tumpeng Rice and the organizer told us the philosophy of it. The traditional Indonesian lunch was delicious and perfect. All the students loved it very much. While waiting for cycling to begin, students played “Congklak” in the hut for about 30 minutes. The students went cycling, guided around the area by the committee. The narrow and slightly slippery paths did not deter them and they managed to get back down to the starting point. The next activity was cooking traditional snacks, “Getuk and Blondo”. These two traditional snacks were made from cassava roots. Students practiced processing these snacks in two different groups guided by the committee . They successfully made the snacks and they all tasted good.
The last activity was the one that the students were looking forward to, which was catching fish in the fish pond. Students were very excited to catch fish in the pond. Some of the students managed to catch fish and bring them home.
Before we closed the whole activities and returned to school, the students cleaned themselves up and collected their belongings. The organizer provided a pick-up mini truck that took us up to the parking area. The pick up was challenging but we managed to get back safely.
It was a very memorable and meaningful trip. Apart from learning about Indonesian culture, food, and traditional games, the students also experienced how to live in a rural area with simple equipment. The students built stronger communication skills and respect among their friends. The organizers were also very professional and the activities were well organized. We think this will become a regular activity.
