A Letter from the Kindergarten
Dear Parents and Ground Staff of MIS,
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to you all for your involvement in our ongoing unit of study on “How the World Works,” specifically regarding the recent activity involving tools. As we explore the concept of how humans use tools to improve their lives, we aim to provide practical and hands-on experiences for our students. We are delighted that you joined us in this journey by participating in a simple yet engaging activity involving tools in our classroom. We believe this experience will not only improve the students’ understanding of the theme but also provide insight into our classroom’s learning approach. We value your partnership in your child’s education and believe parental participation in the learning process as encouragement for positive academic growth. It is also an opportunity for students to explore their curiosities and interests.
Throughout this unit, we have explored a wide range of tools engaged in various aspects of our lives, from cleaning, cooking, baby care, to construction, mechanics, and gardening.
One of the exciting experiences was using mini cleaning tools to tidy up our classroom with Mrs. Cinry Sinambela. We were delighted to witness the children eagerly take the responsibility of maintaining their learning space clean and organized. Not only did they learn the importance of cleanliness, but they also developed their fine motor skills and coordination while handling the tools.
Another highlight of the unit was when we baked banana pancakes with Mrs. Linda Espeland and pizza with Mrs. Teresa Enthoven, using cooking tools. It was a delicious and enjoyable experience for both the students and parents. Through this activity, the children learned about the various tools used in cooking and their functions. They also learned about measuring and following instructions, which are essential life skills.
We were also privileged to have Mrs. Ingebjørg Nandrup and her baby, Jacob, as our special guests. The children were thrilled to take care of the baby and learn about the tools required to do so. They also learned about the importance of being gentle and responsible while handling tools used for taking care of a baby.
We express our sincere gratitude to Mr. Exaudi Damanik for his invaluable mechanical skills in fixing our class bicycles. His detailed guidance emphasized the significance of safety, making the entire process enjoyable and straightforward.
Kindergarten students assisted Pak Supriadi, our class cleaner, in cleaning the classroom using a vacuum cleaner. Engaging young children in household chores not only provides vital life skills but also improves a sense of community and responsibility.
Pak Selamat, our school gardener, helped us plant two young banana plants behind our classroom. The students assisted in adding soil to the hole’s backfill and carefully compacting it around the plant’s base.
The students also showed an interest in the school’s construction area and experimented with various instruments under the supervision of our carpenter, Pak Anto. They learned about proper usage and safety procedures, as well as some vocabulary used to identify common hand tools.
We are grateful for your active participation in your child’s education and for joining us in this journey of learning and growth.
Sincerely,
Ms. Leli Katarina Ginting (Kathy)
