CIRAD Presentation at MIS
Recently MIS co-hosted a science presentation with Alliance Française (AF) Medan attended by students from Grade 10 to 12 from selected schools in Medan; Batari School Medan, Bangun Insan Mandiri (BIM), Northern Green School, Prime One School, Santo Nicolas School, SIS Medan, and MIS.
The presentation titled “The Effects of Climate Change on Photosynthesis” was led by two French scientists; Mr. Alain Rival, CIRAD Senior Project Manager South East Asia and Mr. Denis Fabre, Plant Physiologist, PhD from CIRAD Montpellier Metropolitan Area.
CIRAD is a French agricultural research and cooperation organization working for the sustainable development of tropical and Mediterranean regions. 2024 marks CIRAD’s 40th Anniversary of innovation and research in partnership to grow the world of tomorrow.
Opening the presentation, Mr. Alain was impressed about how the audience were so focused and keen to learn. He further explained that the young generation play an important role in the sustainability of our environment. He also presented about CIRAD’s work in Indonesia and its impact to the world.
Mr. Denis described thoroughly the process of growth in plants, the role of light from solar radiation, carbon dioxide (CO2), oxygen (O2), and other factors that affect plant’s growth. He also explained the findings from recent research observing the difference of plant growth in Pekanbaru, Myanmar and other areas in South East Asia. The scientists at CIRAD are carefully observing the impact of climate change towards plant’s growth.
At the end of the presentation, we understand that our little action matters to the big world. MIS supports initiatives that aligns with our mission to enable lifelong learners who can adapt and act in a caring way leading to a positive impact on the future of our world.
