DIPLOMA PROGRAMME
FROM AGE 16 to 18
The IB Diploma Programme is a rigorous, challenging and balanced two-year pre-university programme for students aged 16 to 19. It is a truly international programme and incorporates the best educational practices from different systems around the world. MIS DP students are prepared for participation in a rapidly evolving and increasingly global society as they develop intellectually, emotionally, physically and ethically, while acquiring the skills that will prepare them for further education and life in the 21st century.

PAMOJA
Pamoja online courses are available as a supplement to the MIS school-offered courses. Pamoja courses cost approximately $1400 per year, plus registration and exam fees. Due to the nature of online learning, only students who are strongly self-motivated are advised to take Pamoja courses. MIS students may only take one Pamoja course. In all admissions cases, the Head of School makes the final decision.
DP Core (TOK, EE, CAS)
The core is made up of three components, which aim to broaden students’ educational experience and challenge them to apply their knowledge and skills.
THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE (TOK)
Theory of Knowledge is a course centered around the questions “How do we know what we know is true?”. Students are taught to seek out knowledge through critical thinking and analysis of the Ways of Knowing of Perception, Emotion, Reason and Language.
Students complete 100 hours over the two-years course. Students are officially assessed based on two pieces of work:
- TOK Essay on a prescribed topic (1200-1600 words). This is supervised by a teacher in MIS, and then graded externally by an IB Examiner.
- TOK Exhibition (Students identify 3 items of their choice and select a prompt question which they respond to in 950 words). This is supervised and assessed by a teacher in MIS. The final grade is then sent to the IB.
EXTENDED ESSAY (EE)
The Extended Essay is an in-depth study of a limited topic within a subject. Its purpose is to provide a student with an opportunity to engage in independent research at an introductory level. Emphasis is placed on the process of engaging in personal research, on the communication of ideas and information in a logical and coherent manner, and on the overall presentation of the Extended Essay in compliance with IB guidelines. Students are required to devote 40+ hours to the essay over the course of twelve months.
The Extended Essay is limited to 4,000 words and should include an abstract, an introduction, a development methodology, a conclusion, a bibliography, and any necessary appendices. The Extended Essay is externally examined. Marks are awarded against a set of published criteria (both general and subject specific).
CREATIVITY, ACTIVITY, SERVICE (CAS)
Students undertake and engage in activities related to each of the three strands. As a result of their CAS Experience as a whole, including their reflections, students should be able to show evidence of:
- increased awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth
- planned and initiated activities.
- worked collaboratively with others.
- shown perseverance in and commitment to their activities.
- engaged with issues of global importance.
- considered the ethical implications of their actions.
- developed new skills.
Assessment
At the end of the two year course, students sit the IB exams, make their TOK presentations, and submit their extended essays, TOK essays, and CAS requirements. If students pass the requirements, they earn the IB Diploma. Please note that the IB Diploma is separate from the MIS diploma (see below); it is possible for a student to fail to earn the IB Diploma but still earn the MIS Diploma; furthermore, students may fail to earn the IB Diploma but still earn certificates in individual courses. Please also note that IB exams are moderated by IB, not by MIS.
Please note that there is an assessment fee for the IB Diploma. The amount is depending on the exchange rate and any fee changes from the IB Organization. Students will be invoiced with the final rate in Term 2 of the second year of DP.
Diploma
The diploma is awarded to candidates who achieve a minimum score of 24 (out of 45) and fulfill the other minimum requirements. Students may choose to not enroll in the full DP but take only particular DP subject courses (e.g. Mathematics HL or Economics SL) or any of the core components (TOK, EE and CAS) of their choosing. A student may take as many or as few DP courses as they wish and their school allows. The award for each of these courses is not the diploma, but a series of scores from one to seven. These individual subject results are referred to as Diploma Programme course results (formerly called a certificate of results). Additionally, students who enrolled in and attempted the full Diploma Programme, but did not meet all the requirements, also receive DP course results (DPCR). Consequently, the DPCR can include all the Diploma Programme components but the diploma was not awarded. The student has, however, been examined and assessed according to the same DP standards and principles. The difference between the award of the diploma or the DPCR can depend on 1 point (e.g. 23 instead of 24), or a student not meeting one of the minimum conditions for being awarded the diploma (e.g. a failing grade on the EE or non-completion of the CAS component). Thus, a student with a total score far exceeding 24 points may not necessarily be awarded the diploma.
Graduation Pathway
There are three possible routes to graduate from MIS, with varying degrees of difficulty. These are listed below, from most difficult to least difficult:
- The Full IB Diploma and MIS Graduation Certificate
- IBDP Courses Results (DPCR) and MIS Graduation Certificate
- The MIS Graduation Certificate only
All eligible Indonesian students will get a National Graduation Certificate from the government of Indonesia.
All tracks of graduation still require the student to attend all six subjects in the mainstream class, plus complete the MIS requirements for CAS, Extended Essay, and Theory of Knowledge.
Required Materials
Students are required to use a Casio fx-9860 II SD Graphing Calculator; parents may purchase this themselves, or arrange for MIS to purchase it for them and be billed for the cost. Students are also required to use an up-to-date laptop - either Apple (preferred) or Windows. Textbooks are provided free of charge, but students will be billed in the event of excessive wear and tear, damage, or loss.
Eligibility Assessment
The school requires at least one day’s notice for any new enrolment starting at the school. Families who arrive at the school unexpectedly will be inducted immediately where possible, with the student/s beginning in class the following day, depending on the completion of enrolment forms, entrance exams and payment of the first invoice.
MIS is permitted to enroll international students who are holding a KITAS or whose parent is a KITAS holding expatriate employee, as well as students of Indonesian nationality, and students of dual nationalities.
MIS accepts students from all curriculum backgrounds. Students enrolling to MYP must submit a Completion Certificate from Primary level (IB or non IB programmes), and are required to complete the MAP test in Science, Language, Math, and Reading. Students must submit the Academic Report, Birth Certificate, and Parents’ ID upon enrollment.
After completing the MAP Entrance Test, candidate students (and their parents) will have an interview session with the IB DP Coordinator to determine their career goals and best choice of courses to help achieve these goals. We provide a series of presentations and counseling sessions, culminating in each student and his/her parents meeting together with the DP Coordinator to select his/her mix of HL/SL courses to determine the best selection of courses.
