In the 1981-1982 school year, MIS began the school year on its present site in a purpose-built campus funded generously by Mobil Oil, Inc. Enrollment grew to new heights.
In 2002, MIS became an authorized school with the Middle Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate Organization becoming the first school in Sumatra to offer this prestigious programme. In 2003, MIS was authorized to offer the Primary Years Programme.
In 2014, following the changes in Indonesian regulation, the school changed its name to Medan Independent School under the same Yayasan Medan International School.
In 2017, MIS was authorized to offer the Diploma Programme, and the 2018-2019 school year marked our first graduating Grade 12 cohort.
Now we have approximately 60% Indonesian students, 3% with dual citizenship, and around 37% international students.
