Celebrating Indonesian Independence Day at MIS

On Friday, 14 August 2026, the MIS community came together to celebrate Indonesian Independence Day with meaningful and joyful activities. The activities brought students, teachers, staff, parents, and new families together to strengthen the community and celebrate the spirit of independence.
Flag Rasing
The celebration began in the morning, as students, teachers, and staff gathered in the gym for the flag-raising ceremony. The ceremony provided an opportunity to commemorate Indonesia’s Independence Day and honour the contributions and sacrifices of the nation’s heroes.
Mr Gaetano, MIS principal, presided over the ceremony with solemnity and order. Students, teachers, and staff participated respectfully, wearing batik or red-and-white clothing to represent Indonesian culture and national pride.
Meeting the Parents
As part of the special day, a Meet the Parents session was held in the afternoon at 5:00 p.m. The first presentation session was for PYP and DP parents, followed by a second presentation session for MYP parents. Parents went to the designated room for their child’s grade level. The gathering provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen communication between the school and parents and to share important information about the school program for the academic year, especially for the new members of the school.
Indonesian Games
At 6:00 p.m., the evening became even more enjoyable as students, families, and staff gathered in the gym for five traditional Indonesian Independence Day games: Lomba Makan Kerupuk, Balap Karung, Pecah Balon, and Pukul Bantal. The final game, Lomba Estafet Sarung, featured four teams competing against one another, creating plenty of opportunities for laughter, teamwork, and friendly competition. Through these activities, students and families experienced a fun part of Indonesian culture while spending quality time together as community members.
The celebration was a wonderful reminder that independence is not only about remembering history, but also about coming together as a community. By celebrating Indonesian traditions and welcoming new members of our school family, MIS continues to build a strong and inclusive community where everyone can participate, connect, and celebrate together.
