Introducing Our New Co-Curricular: Mock Trial
By Mr. Jason Pringle, MYP/DP English Language & Literature Teacher, MYP 2/3 Individuals & Societies Teacher.
This term, we are excited to launch a brand-new Co-Curricular Activity at our school: Mock Trial. Meeting every Wednesday at 2.45 pm, this dynamic programme invites students to step into the world of the courtroom while building confidence, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.
The Mock Trial programme will be led by Mr. Pringle, alongside Darlene, a student in MYP 5, who will play a key leadership role in supporting and guiding participants. Together, they aim to create an environment that is both educational and fun, where students learn by doing.
Participants will explore how trials work, including the roles of lawyers, witnesses, judges, and jurors. Through role-play, argument-building, and performance, students will develop skills in public speaking, persuasive writing, teamwork, and logical reasoning. No prior experience is required, just curiosity and a willingness to try something new.
This programme marks an exciting milestone for the school. It is the first time Mock Trial has been offered, and also Mr. Pringle’s first experience coaching a mock trial team. As such, the journey will be one of shared learning, experimentation, and growth for both students and mentors.
We look forward to seeing students rise to the challenge, think on their feet, and enjoy the process of learning how justice works in a supportive and engaging setting. Mock Trial promises to be a lively and rewarding addition to our co-curricular offerings.
